Associate Professor David Attwood

Director of Industrial Partnerships

David has a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with Physics from Reading University, and a PhD in reaction kinetics in reversed micelles from The University of Liverpool. David’s research career spans thirty years working in the research laboratories of multinational companies.  Areas of expertise include polymer analysis, using chromatographic, spectroscopic and thermal techniques, materials processing and mechanisms of ageing for fibre reinforced polymer composites.

Between 2006 and 2015 David was the manager of the Head Office Research & Technology Programme for BAE Systems. The role involved agreeing a programme of work with the stakeholders and then ensuring the delivery. Technologies developed by the programme included Modelling, Autonomy, Materials, Sensors, Communication Systems, Networks and Information Systems and Human Factors. This role gave David experience in understanding the issues surrounding the maturing of technology and the business issues that have to be addressed before implementation and impact can be achieved.

David took up the post of Director: Industrial Partnerships in the Institute of Bio-Sensing Technology at the University of the West of England (UWE) in September 2016.

David has a Masters of Business Administration, is a Chartered Engineer (IET) and is qualified in Project Management (PRINCE 2). David has over thirty publications in the scientific literature.
