BioApproaches South West
BioApproaches South West is a biotechnology and life sciences support group for the South West of England, a programme funded by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and currently managed by GWE Business West Ltd. Working across industrial biotechnology (including marine and agricultural), pharmaceuticals, food technology and healthcare, BioApproaches SW supports the growth of the biotechnology and life science sectors in the South West of England, it provides targeted activities in response to the emerging biotech sector’s needs.
BioApproaches South West supports the biotechnology and life sciences sectors in the region by:
- Facilitating knowledge transfer and actively supporting business collaborations in the sector
- Promoting the strengths and successes of the sector, and promoting the region’s businesses and research institutes both nationally and internationally
- Promoting new market opportunities within the region and beyond.
- Hosting and sponsoring sector-specific seminars and other events (both regional and national)

The South West is home to over 150 companies, employing more than 7,000 people. It also has 6 world-renowned Universities, as well as a wealth of unique Research Institutes including the Health Protection Agency and the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (Porton Down), Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association, Plymouth Marine Science Partnership and the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), Weymouth. BioApproaches helps organisations discover new collaborative opportunities within the vibrant and innovative South West.
