IIP - Intelligent Imaging Programme
SIKTN Logo

Date: 3 February 2010
Location: the IET, Savoy Place, London

The Imaging SIG will launch its activities at the Intelligent Imaging Programme, the IIP which builds upon a long tradition of bringing this community together through the former DTI Faraday Partnership Networks.

The event will be a great place to learn about new research developments and commercial applications of a variety of imaging technologies, to meet new contacts from other imaging disciplines and to learn about collaborative funding opportunities and partnerships. There will also be a mini exhibition and poster session during the networking lunch featuring a diverse range of UK imaging organisations, technologies and products. Plenty of time has been built in to the programme for networking and we will also host a panel discussion to gather imaging community inputs at the end of the programme.

Greening of Technology
NJTC

Date: 18 February
Location: Liberty Science Center, Jersey City, USA

The field of "green technology" encompasses a continuously evolving group of methods and materials -- from techniques for generating energy to non-toxic cleaning products. The present expectation is that this field will bring innovation and changes in daily life of similar magnitude to the information technology explosion over the last two decades. In these early stages, it is impossible to predict what green technology may eventually encompass. This event will bring together experts to get the discussion started.

Speakers:
Darren Hammell, Co-Founder and Exec. VP, Princeton Power Systems
Neil O’Hara, Director, Product Solutions, SunGard Availability
Dr. Nicholas J. Smith Sebasto, Executive Director,
School of Environment & Life Sciences, Kean University
David A. Springsteen, WithumSmith+Brown, PC

Sensors and instrumentation for monitoring cell toxicity
IBST

Date: 14 April
Location: University of the West of England, Bristol. UK

This joint IBST/SIKTN workshop will explore requirements of sensors and instrumentation to support SIKTNand monitor cell culture systems which can be used to accelerate drug discovery by identifying toxic effects of potential drug compounds.  Toxicity studies are also important developing animal replacement technologies through Replacement, Refinement and Reduction (3R’s).
Alternative testing for cell toxicity is becoming a critical component for the testing of new cosmetics and testing industrial chemicals under the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) legislation.
