| Application of Biosensors in the Water Industry |
Jointly hosted by SWIG, IBST and SIKTN. Biosensors are devices that combine the specificity of a biological interaction with a sensor technology to give a rapid measurement of an analyte. For example the glucose biosensor is widely used by diabetics to measure their blood glucose and utilises the interaction of glucose with an enzyme such as glucose oxidase. The translation of biosensor technology into the water industry has been slow but with the development of new technology a number of applications are starting to be commercialised. This workshop will review some of the advances in technology that facilitate the use of biosensors in the water industry. Talks will include the use of nano-materials, neural networks and protein stabilisation technology. In addition, there will be examples of how particular measurements are made using biosensor technology, including pesticides, ammonia, endotoxins and micro-organisms.More |
| IBST Launch Event |
This one-day Conference, jointly hosted with the Sensors and Instrumentation KTN, will provide a forum for sharing best practice in the field of bio sensing and includes case studies of successful bio-sensing technology integration. A key focus of the event is bringing together industry and academia to explore new opportunities for partnerships, investment and commercialisation in the field of bio-sensing technology for the 21st century. An international dimension will be presented which will explore the benefits and potential through collaboration with the biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies based in New Jersey in the United States.
